چکیده

The stability of a fishery system was investigated using two forms of a stochastic computer simulation model that was individually based in terms of the fishing boats. Fish catch was partitioned among boats according to two catch processes: an unranked process in which all boats had equal ability to catch fish and a ranked catch model in which a boat’s ability to catch fish depended on its wealth. Stock size, total catch, fleet size and individual boat wealth were modeled over a series of years. In the unranked catch model the fish stock size and fleet size were significantly more variable than in the ranked catch model.

The small-scale squid hand-jig fishery off the northwestern Iberian Peninsula: application of a model based on a short survey of fishery statistics

A small-scale squid hand-jig fishery targeting the squids Loligo vulgaris and Loligo forbesi exists in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula. Its importance is evaluated using a model based on a short survey of fishery statistics. A total of 46 ports in Galicia operate this fishery. These ports were classified into three categories, according to characteristics relevant to the length of season in ...

The sensITIvITy of mulTIple ouTpuT sTaTIsTIcs To InpuT parameTers In a krIll–predaTor–fIshery ecosysTem dynamIcs model

There is a global need to develop strategic frameworks for assessing uncertainty in ecosystem dynamics models. Such models have been used within CCAMLR to evaluate options for managing the Antarctic krill fishery in the Scotia Sea and southern Drake Passage. The model analysed here required 2 311 input values for each of four scenarios and produced 68 output statistics. Small perturbations to i...

An agent-based bioeconomic model of a fishery with input controls

An agent–based bioeconomic fishery model was developed to assist in the design and evaluation of management instruments in an input controlled fishery. The agent–based structure of the model enables the choice of management instruments to be tailored specifically to account for the competitive ‘race to fish’ behavior observed in input controlled fisheries. The optimal season length and capital ...

The Fishery Performance Indicators: A Management Tool for Triple Bottom Line Outcomes

Pursuit of the triple bottom line of economic, community and ecological sustainability has increased the complexity of fishery management; fisheries assessments require new types of data and analysis to guide science-based policy in addition to traditional biological information and modeling. We introduce the Fishery Performance Indicators (FPIs), a broadly applicable and flexible tool for asse...

Transition from open access to quota based fishery management regimes in Alaska increased the safety of operations.

During the past 12 years fishery managers responsible for federal fisheries off Alaska have developed and implemented three new fishery management limited access/quota share programs in place of traditional open access management. The three limited access programs are unique but each provides for the allocation of quota shares to individual participants in the halibut and sablefish longline fis...
